5 Self-Care Tips for the Hardworking Chingona

Self-care is “the practice of activities that [chingonas] initiate and perform on their own behalf in maintaining life, health, and well-being.” We know being a full-time chingona can be a lot sometimes, but we’re here to remind you to take some time for you, mujer. Don’t forget to give yourself all the love and energy you give to others. If not every single day, then every week, we encourage you to set aside some time for self-care, to do things that bring you joy. Here are some of our favorite weekly self-care practices.

1. Getting pampered

What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself? Treating yourself to a little TLC is one of our favorite forms of self-care. We have a few ideas in mind for you:

  • Book a mani/pedi date with your bestie at the salon
  • Take a trip to the spa for the day for a rejuvenating facial or relaxing massage
  • Buy some candles, pour some wine and run a hot bath at home

Whether you’re getting pampered at the salon or creating a relaxing space at home, we encourage you to pamper yourself as often as you can. So go run that bath or book that facial, you earned it chula!

2. Enjoying some quiet time

Sometimes self-care is enjoying the simple things in life. Like turning off your phone and having a hot cup of cafecito while curled up in bed with a book, or outdoors enjoying the sunshine. One of my favorite things to do as a little girl was waking up early and enjoying a cup of cafecito with my Abuelita before everyone else in the house woke up. Those warm sips of coffee and bites of pan dulce are sweet memories that I’ll cherish forever. Although small, these rituals bring us back to roots and remind us to enjoy the little things in life...the ultimate form of self-care.

3. Being active

Getting your sweat on is a great way to self-care. Moving your body can help you unwind and relieve stress. No matter your fitness level, you can always take some time to get out and be active daily. Whether it’s heading to the gym, going for a walk or hike, or practicing yoga, exercise is amazing for the body, mind and soul.

4. Going out on the town

Time with loved ones is good for the soul. What better wait to indulge in self-care than dressing up and going out with your girls? There’s no better match than feeling good in your favorite heels, a classic red lip and dancing the night away. So call up your primas, amigas and anyone else who makes you feel like the queen that you are and go have some fun. You deserve it!

5. Setting boundaries

Sometimes self-care isn’t about your physical self at all, it’s about your mental, spiritual and emotional self too. That means setting boundaries at work, with loved ones, or even with yourself. Self-care means not always filling your plate at work or distancing yourself fromWe’re here to remind you that it’s OK to say no. Always put yourself first, girl.
